"Jeroen Doorenweerd believes that the potential power of art in public space resides in its capacity to conjure up intensified forms of the quotidian that enable us to become more conscious of the here and now. The relation between the context and the art is crucial. In Münsterland, in particular. Doorenweerd subjected the conditions of the setting to those of the work. In fact, he would have much preffered to purchase the plot of land instead of renting it. His reasoning says a lot about his motives: had he been able to purchase the land, art would no longer have been a guest in a domain to which it is essentially extraneous, but would have become the host, and hence free to set the rules of the game. And that in itself is revealing" Mariska van den Berg, Text catalogue Sculpture Biennial Münsterland 2003 Participating artists: Darren Almond,Katinka Bock, Monica Bonvicini, Jeroen Doorenweerd, Elmgreen & Dragset, Shirazeh Houshiary / Pip (Philip) Horne, Ann Veronica Janssens, Niek Kemps, Mathieu Mercier, Dan Peterman, Mira Schumann, Simon Starling, Thomas Stricker, Apolonija Sustersicč, Pascale Marthine Tayou
